Another woodworking video in the continuing series. In this video: freeform bowls and wooden spheres, a ceiling lamp and two candle holders. Used special woods such as Golden chain (Laburnum), Burled Alder (Alnus), Birdeye sycamore and rootballs. A woodlovers dream to work with. No lathe of any kind is used, only my angle grinder and saburr tooth carbide grinding disks, enabling me to create any shape I want without restrictions. 90% of the stuff I make is finished with oils to bring out the natural beauty. The effects on Golden chain for example are breathtaking. Finishes used in these projects: Tung oil, Chestnut Lemon oil, gloss polyurethane, Shellac and Rustin Danish oil. Depending on the color I want, I first use ether Rustin Danish Oil or my own oil brew of 1/3 Tung oil+1/3 Lemon oil+1/3 Polyurethane as the color coat. Next two coats of Shellac to seal it, then again my oil brew, Danish oil, or 1/2 Polyurethane+1/2 Lemon oil as a topcoat. All projects are made at home, in a tiny shed (aka the doghouse..), Groningen, Netherlands.

The next batch small woodworking projects in the series. In this video: – A robust bowl out of old Oak, beautiful chocolate color when oiled. – A candle holder out of a Teak Table leg. – Two small incense burners out of Birch burl – A bowl shaped like an acorn, partially fumigated using ammonia. All objects are finished with a combination of oil, enhancing the natural beauty and depth of the wood. Finishes used in these projects: Tung oil, Chestnut Lemon oil, gloss oil based polyurethane, Shellac, Boiled linseed oil (BLO) and Rustin Danish oil. These bowls where made without any kind of lathe, but purely with Saburr-Tooth disks + my angle grinder and a detail sander. Each bowl costs about 8+ hours to make. All projects are made at home, in my tiny shed (aka the doghouse..), Groningen, Netherlands.

I have some experience but am short on ideas and some skills with my tools. I’m looking for really high quality project plans that are easy to follow.

My next woodworking project: I always wanted to do something with burled wood. I very rarely get my hands on it. This large Birch stump had one large burl and several smaller ones on it. Instead of cutting them out and discarding the rest of the log, I wanted to integrate them all in one object. The stump itself has many interesting cavities and depressions in it, so I felt it would do the tree injustice if I only took the burls. The wood has tons of beautiful features, like black lines from spalting, green and red spots from other fungi, brown streaks from pieces of cambium, leftover pieces of bark and the chaotic burl grain. When I applied the first coat of oil, my jaw dropped to the floor, I never could have dreamed it would look this good (you can see that later on in the vid) This table was made in Hortus Haren, Netherlands.
